You’ll Learn the Basics in Dermaplaning Class
Suppose you’re a bit unsure of exactly what the treatment entails. In that case, your instructor will explain that it’s a procedure that uses a surgical scalpel to gently and carefully remove dead skin cells. You’ll learn how the procedure doesn’t damage skin cells and that it helps a person’s skin to look smoother and softer. It’ll ease the appearance of fine lines and acne scars.
You’ll Learn the Proper Procedure and Technique
Your instructor will demonstrate the correct procedure and technique so you understand how to administer this skincare treatment safely, and clients receive optimal results. You’ll then have the opportunity to practice on a mannequin.
During training, you’ll learn how to prepare the client’s face to prevent infection, including removing any oil, dirt, or other debris, as well as makeup. You must then dry the skin completely so the blade doesn’t slip.
In the free kit, you’ll receive a special dermaplaning handle with a disposable blade. You’ll learn to keep the client’s skin taut with your non-dominant hand to reduce the risk of cutting or nicking.
When you use the blade, always hold it at a 45-degree angle and make light, short, upward strokes. During training, you’ll learn the ideal amount of pressure to use because too much can irritate the skin.
Throughout the course, you’ll be given instructions on proper sanitation protocols, such as glove use. The instructor will emphasize why single-use blades are the most sanitary and safe option. You’ll also learn what to do with the blade after completing the treatment.
So you keep clients safe, you’ll learn when you shouldn’t perform this treatment, like when a person has an active case of acne or a skin infection.
You’ll Learn How to Educate Clients
Clients will come in with questions; it’s inevitable. To prepare you, the instructor of a dermaplaning class will inform you of all the specifics about the treatment, such as:
- All the benefits
- The time the treatment takes (up to an hour and a half)
- Aftercare instructions
- The recovery timeline
- How long do the results last
Importance of Your Kit
After you receive training, you can take your kit home to continue to practice. Synthetic skin sheets or practice pads come in handy for this purpose, but you could also use a melon or a grapefruit.
Dermaplaning training for an esthetician can give you the knowledge and credentials you need to offer an additional service to clients, whether you’re opening a med spa or are seeking employment in the field. You learn everything from the proper technique to use to how to prevent infection.
